What is Accelerated TMS?

Accelerated Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an advanced, non-invasive treatment for mental health conditions, including treatment-resistant depression.

Unlike regular TMS, which typically involves 5 sessions per week for approximately 7 weeks, accelerated TMS delivers 5 sessions per day within a timeframe of two weeks.

What does an Accelerated TMS treatment look like?

During an Accelerated TMS treatment, the patient sits comfortably while the TMS coil is positioned on their head. As the machine operates and sends pulses to the brain, patients can watch TV, listen to music, or chat with our staff. They are also welcome to have a friend or family member present in the room if they feel more at ease with company.

Since Accelerated TMS involves multiple sessions each day, each session lasts 18-20 minutes, followed by a 40-minute break.During the breaks, patients are free to use their time however they wish. After the break, the patient undergoes another 9- minute TMS session, followed by another break. This cycle repeats for a total of 3-5 TMS sessions.

After the treatment sessions, most patients feel like their usual selves. They can drive and resume their normal activities. Some might experience mild fatigue or a slight headache, which can be alleviated with rest and over-the-counter pain relievers.
