Frequently Asked Questions
McLean Counseling Center
How do I set up an appointment at the McLean Counseling Center?
Call us at 703 821-1073 or contact us online for an initial intake consultation with one of our office administrators. During the initial intake consultation, we will ask for basic background information (such as duration and frequency of your symptoms, any previous counseling, past medical history, etc.) as well as basic demographics (such as age, sex, marital status, etc.). This is done to help determine if McLean Counseling Center is the right fit for you, and if so, which provider would best suit your needs. We will then match you with a provider and the provider will reach out to you for your free 15-minute consultation where you can begin collaborating and set up your first appointment.
What happens during a counseling session at McLean Counseling Center?
What are your office hours?
We are open Monday – Friday from 9:00am until 5:00pm. However, each of our providers keeps their own schedule, so appointment times can be negotiated directly to include evenings and/or weekends.
What are your fees?
Our fees range from $200 to $425 per session, depending on which professional you see and how long your appointment time is. All fees are due in full at the time of service. We accept all major credit cards and HSA. We will collect your credit card information before your first appointment and your card will be automatically charged after each appointment. Please note that it is the patient’s responsibility to inform us of any change in credit card information (such as expiration date, etc.), to avoid declined charges.
Do you take insurance?
As for insurance, we are “out-of-network” providers, do not have contracts with insurance companies, and thus are not “preferred providers.” Nevertheless, our services are almost always reimbursable. Please check with your insurance company directly to determine your out-of-network benefits.
McLean Counseling Center does not accept reassignment of benefits from any insurance company and does not bill insurance companies directly. However, McLean Counseling Center offers patients assistance with submitting claims to their insurance. If you have Medicare or Medicaid, please inform us during your initial consultation, as we do not participate with these plans and patients seen at our center cannot submit our receipts for reimbursement. If you have Tricare, McLean Counseling Center is not able to submit claims on your behalf, however, you are able to submit claims on your own for reimbursement.
What is your cancellation policy?
When we schedule an appointment for you, we set aside that block of time for you exclusively. To make our practice viable, we require 48-hours (2 business days) notice for a cancellation. Otherwise, you will be charged the full price for a missed appointment.
Can mental health stop you from working?
If you’re employed and are diagnosed with a mental health condition, you may be worried about the effect it will have on your employment. If your mental health condition affects your ability to work, talk to your employer and ask for reasonable accommodations. If you need to take off time from work to focus on improving your mental health condition, you may be eligible for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Many people with mental health conditions with required medical support lead very fulfilling lives, and employment can be a big part of that life.
What can I do if I'm having family and relationship issues?
Family and relationship problems can have multiple impacts on one’s life. Few simple steps can sometimes help you overcome these issues. However if you find it difficult to get it solved by talking to each other, look for family therapy.
How can I avoid job stress?
Work stress can occur due to many reasons such as excessive workloads, lack of support, less growth opportunities, conflicting demands and more. Avoiding job stress is both employer’s and employee’s responsibility. As an employee, learn to relax, take short breaks throughout the day, prioritize, manage time well and communicating effectively with the superiors.
